Dr. Oikonomou is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Oikonomou treats patients at the Susan and Leonard Feinstein IBD Clinical Center and at Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s Phillips Ambulatory Care Center. His clinical and research interest is in management of patients with IBD and patients with J-pouch.

Prior to joining the Mount Sinai Health System, Dr. Oikonomou was a member of the gastrointestinal faculty and the IBD Program at the Yale School of Medicine.

Dr. Oikonomou earned his medical degree from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg, Germany, and completed his residencies at Washington University in St. Louis and Weill Cornell Medical College, prior to completing IBD and GI fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
